For your peace of mind and safety its goodto plan and get architectural drawings done. It sets you up properly for your project. Although ij is not a legal requirement to assign an architect for your projects it is highly recommended you have someone who is knowledgeable and experienced designing your home.
Hence why ArkiDraft, although legally we are not ‘Architects’ we are experienced and knowledgeable to help you tum your dream intoreal .

We are preparing a “how to• video guide on taking your own measurements, if you are struggling to take measurements do get in touch and we will help you further.

To take your own measurements you’ll need pencil/pen, paper and a laser measure (can be purchased of Amazon for about £20).

When sending in your own measurements ijs important to also take note of the type of wall and thickness, i.e 100mm, 150mm, 200mm, load bearing or non-load bearing.
1) Draw out your floor plan, remember houses are usually just squares and rectangles!
2) Make sureyou have drawn in the doors, window any chimneys or other key structural element.
3) Get all the lengths and widths of each room, make sure to check the lengths and widths add up on each side. Do not worry if there is 5/10 mm difference.
4) For windows, get the width and height and clearly label which one is height and width. We’ll
also need the distance between the floor and window.
5) For doors measure the length and width and the distance between the door and closest wall.
6) When measuring the loft, we need the distance from the joist to the ridge.
7) If you are looking to do a ground floor extension we’ll needthe location of the manhole if ij is nearby. Along wijh the location you will have to open up the manhole to measure the depth, pipesizeand flow direction.
